I am your host. Thank you so much for joining us today. I know we are back after uh a brief short hiatus, so there's a lot going on with that. I will get into that a little later. Better yet, I'm gonna get into that with you on a specifically another episode, But right now we're just gonna jump straight into a Cousin and Ken folks. I'm so glad you all join us today. I'm so happy to have y'all. I'm so happy to be back. I'm so happy to sit down and talk with my cousins and ken folks once again like we do. Because a new month there now, this is a new start. There are new beginnings, there are new mercies. Whenever you didn't get a chance to do or uh maybe you're not a uh achieve what you wanted to achieve in the month of February, you gotta opportunity right now, starting today, right here, first day of March, So jump in on their cousin's kin folks, it's a whole new month, so you got another opportunity of whatever you didn't do yesterday, we can do that today.

1:19 So I'm believe me. Hey, I'm doing I'm I am taking advantage that myself. I am taking my own advice in my own words, I am doing so oh yeah yeah. But listen to cousins and kin folks. Uh, this month it's National Women's Month, National Women's Month. So I want to take the time right now and to send a shout out to all the wonderful ladies in this world, in this country, in this state, in this community, in this city, right here, right now, Happy Women's Month. Now we should shot you out all the time. But since this month's National Women's Month, all month long here on, currently under construction, we are going to highlight women who have either touch this country in some way, touch my community in some way, or touch me in some way.

2:32 You never know who it is, or who it could be, or whatever it could be, but just know that we're going to do this all month long, right here on currently under construction. And who better to start this month with who we're gonna highlight y'all know how much I love her? If y'all know how much I love her. Y'all know I talk about it all the time. And even though right now she's in the presence of the Lord and then were the most high was, she's so dear near and dear to me each and every day I'm talking about my tea lady, my mama, says Stella Overton. Yeah, well, this is what we gonna highlight right now now. My mama, she didn't have a whole lot coming up, grew up in the country in a small town in northeast Louisiana. Her and her siblings, my uncles, and my aunt, uh to my grandmother and uh my grandfather, who I never knew. I never knew my paternal grandfather. Probably's best that I didn't, but that's neither here nor there.

3:53 But uh, my grandma, my mother didn't have a lot coming up, as did a lot of families in that particular area of northeast Louisiana. Coming up. She'd do a whole lot about hard work. Though her worth ethic was unmatched. Her worth ethic was unlike anybody I've ever seen in my life. I mean, seriously, I like anybody I've ever seen in my life, even til this day with all the people who I mean that in in the forty plus year, is that that the most high has blessed me to be here. I have yet to see anyone with the work ethic like my mom had it. But she developed it, uh from my childhood. She didn't have a whole lot of education. She my straight up, My mom only had a fourth grade education. But she could read very well, she could write. She had a s a partial speech impediment growing up also, but she overcame there dramatically if you just sitting you have a conversation when you would never think that she did in any shape form a fashion, But she did, and she overcame it. She overcame it, spoke very well, spoke very eloquently, and even with the limited education school wise my mom had,

5:29 she was a highly, very intelligent woman. Very much so. I watched her as a child. I watched my mom hustle, you know, two jobs here and there and everything just to make ends meet. I saw her uh at the beginning, you know, as a small child, just just a small piece of her hustle, you know, wheeling and deal into uh, make sure that we had plenty to eat in the house. You know, bills was paid in everything that I had, clothes, that I needed to go to school then, and she always told me that I preach to me the importance of education. She always like, hate to make sure you learn to read, make sure you learn your arithmetic. I know, so I know a lot of you right now looking like a arithmetic what is that? If you know, you know, if you know, you know, cousins, a kid, folks arithmetic math, that's what they used to call it back then, arithmetic, basic math. But she was always uh taught me the importance of that. Now. She was hard in her own ways. Uh, but she loved her family more than anything, not just

7:01 the children, but her family period. And I'm gonna get into what I mean about that a little in a in a little bit. But I watched my mom work private homes h If you know what that means, it's being you know, working as a maid initially, but eventually, at some point she started working for this small restaurant in north the northern part of Monroe called China Doll. She started there as a dishwasher. As a dishwasher, do you know that this woman went from the dishwasher to the restaurant manager that this restaurant didn't run right unless she was there for twenty plus years. The owners never I had to worry about anything. They only came to show their face during lunch and the dinner hours. That was it. Everything else ran through my mom. Everything is ran through her inventory, hiring, uh scheduling, the money drop, count down the registers, making sure the registers are countdown proper, to make sure that everything was done, making sure the liquor licenses

8:35 is up to power, all of that, make sure the menias are constantly up to date. All of that, All of that ran through my mom. That's how much faith these people had in her. That goes back to her work ethic because she never missed a day of work rain, sleep, snow, sick, pregnant, whatever, She never mister Dale work six days a week, Monday through Saturday, twelve hours a day. She was there, and she got there the best way she could, whether she got a ride, whether she had to walk, catch the bus, whatever, she got there. Sometimes I wouldn't see something. Sometimes I wouldn't see my mom really for days. When I was a small kid. When I was a kid, sometimes I wouldn't say O for days, I would hear her come home, but I'm sleep and I get up in the morning for school, and sometimes I would if I just didn't go, and just so happened to stop going a room and kiss her and tell her good morning or something like that right there before I head out to school. I wouldn't see my mom

10:05 for days. But that was just the hustle in her to make sure that she took her home when I go. When I say that, my mom was one of the most intelligent women I've ever seen, so it was hustling. I've watched her go into banks, finance companies, say, and do business with these people. That's the same one with a fourth grade education here, now do business with these people, talking to them on not just on their level, on their level, but above I've said, I've watched her talking down on prices of cars. I've watched her talk them down on bank loans and what not, you know, and that she was trying to get at that particular time for my dad or something. I've watched her do this, and you would sit there and think a person would a fourth grade education had they ability to do that? Oh yeah, oh yeah. Let me tell you something about Uh, my mom. When it came to numbers, she might not have been able to do some of the things that I would do as far as uh uh proportions or uh algebra or geometry or anything like that. But when it came to straight numbers, count money, straight finance and everything like that, you couldn't beat that woman. Couldn't beat her,

11:37 couldn't beat her, couldn't beat her. You would have swooping down that she went to college for finance, that she had a finance degree. You would have swooping down that she did just to her hustle, her intuition and a keen mind. That she had keen mind. When I say she loved her family. When my great grandmother died and transitioned in nineteen eighty one, she was the matriarch of the family. So you would have thought then it would have gone that mantle, so to speak, would have moved on to my grandmother. In some degree. It did, but it didn't. It really moved to my mom. My mom makes sure everything's together as far as the family. Everybody. If they if something needed to be done, they came to my mom for it, trying to plan holidays and stuff like that.

13:07 My Mom put it together, whether even if it wasn't at our house, she put it together. She loved her family. One of my great aunts, I'm gotta remain nameless, one of my great aunts, uh came back to town and just you know, kind of kind of down at that particular time and called my mom and just little when she was coming, My mom was ready for and she needed to get on her feet. My Mama helped her out everything established. She was on ninety was on dialysis and everything like that. Mamma gotta set up on dialysis uh uh regiment regularly, got her set up to where her check was uh now coming to the house for her my auntie and everything so she can get all of her uh collected SSI funds and whatnot. Had a set to where her doctor's appointment. She's making her doctor's appointments regularly and everything like that. Her insulin because that aunt was a diabetic. My aunt got her set to where she was on the waiting list to where she was you know, eligible, and got put in and was able to get her house in a couple of months. Mom said, all that up for got all that going for. She loved her man. She

14:41 loved her family, even if she fussed about or whatever the case may be, she loved her family. Nothing was more important to her than her family, nothing, especially her children. She may not have showed it all the time or whatever, but nothing was more important to her than her family, especially her children and her grands. Oh, you couldn't tell her. Don't get me started coming to talking about her grands. But she was. Uh, she's an amazing, amazing woman. And when she gave her life to the Most High and begin to really develop her relationship with him, you saw that. You you you really saw how big her heart was. Then you really saw how the the true love that she had not just for her family, but for her community as well, and her church home, and her pastor, and and and her church members. You begin to see that that woman loved and loved hard. She was the epitome of love. She truly

16:19 was never met a stranger, I mean ever, never bet a stranger ever, I mean anybody, just just new people here and there. I watched her and my aunt and Lord, I still don't know how this even happened. I've watched them go into Walmart one Sunday after church at two o'clock. They came out of there at midnight, no joke, true story, no joke. I'm like, mamma, why what what it? What? What could you? And t T possibly had been doing it Walmart for ten hours and she broke it out. She said, oh, well, we shopped a little, we walked a little, we talked. We selling some people that we knew. We did that right there, when got our nails done.

17:12 We walked some, most shot a little bit more, We talked and everything. I'm just sleep but for ten hours, really really Walmart, she said, we just kept running the people that we knew again. Never met a stranger ever ever, Ever, that woman there could strike up a conversation with her, and you would have sworn this person she may have just met that person at that moment, and you would have swore that she's known that person for years, that they was longtime friends finding each other again. I ain't talked to each other in twenty twenty five years. You would have sworn that and they just met, just met. That woman now was something else, something else. I'm not saying she was perfect. She was far from cause we are and none of us are. She was far from perfect, but you know what she was all woman, and she was one amazing woman.

18:37 And I am proud for the years to the most high gave my sisters and I with her and definitely proud call her my mom. That's my tea lady right there. You go to my hometown. You ain't gotta say one of two names. They knew a boy one of two two names. They either knew how by Stella or Mickey, but either way, they know who you talking about. They knew my tea Lady, and they knew that she was some special and she was an amazing woman with a lot of love in her heart for people, her community, and the most high. Most importantly that she did so the beginning of this fall, so they kick off this month of Women's month, the month of Marge. We kick it off here currently on the construction, sitting a shot out my Tea Lady that Stella over to. I love your baby. I miss you each and every day, but we nowhere, we know you looking down on us. We know that you you you you you watching over us day in and day out, and we miss you each and every day, but we know we are always in
